Message from the Provost

Brian Amkraut, Provost As you can see from our exciting lineup of upcoming classes and programs, Siegal College continues its outstanding tradition of serving as The Source for world-class adult Jewish learning here in Northeast Ohio. We are particularly excited to inaugurate our Siegal Visiting Scholar Series this spring term as we welcome some of the best faculty in Judaic Studies from around the world, each of whom will join our community for an extended visit and share their unique expertise offering public lectures, mini-courses, advanced seminars, and other learning opportunities throughout the area. For those of you who had the good fortune to join us this past November for our widely attended evening with Amos Oz, we are presenting a few opportunities to gain further insights and familiarity with the work and life of this prolific Israeli author. As in previous years our spring offerings include a two-day visit from a contemporary Israeli author as well as our acclaimed Reel Israel Series of Films and Conversations. We are pleased to present the Siegal-Schneider Memorial Lecture with Professor Robert Watson discussing President Truman’s Role in the Birth of Israel. Our menu of offerings, al always, includes the broad range of topics that continue to make Siegal College a central address for lifelong Jewish learning – courses in advanced Talmud study as well as introductory Hebrew, programs in modern Jewish thought and studies in Bible and Jewish history. We offer training in Judaica with applications and benefits for many professionals including Jewish educators, social workers, family therapists, nurses, lawyers, and others. Opportunities include single evening and lunch time programs, mini-courses from 2-6 weeks in length, as well as full semester courses. Siegal College is right for you whether you are interested in learning the basics or advanced nuances of modern or biblical Hebrew, engaging the rich heritage of traditional Jewish texts, encountering the vibrancy of modern Israeli culture, addressing the challenges of contemporary Jewish life, or exploring the dynamic relationship between Jews and the world around them. Siegal College serves a diverse population of learners, including those with little or no Jewish background, providing an open environment to engage the mind and spirit. As always, please do not hesitate to let us know how we can better serve you. Our doors remain open, right in the heart of the Jewish community.

Siegal College is Cleveland’s higher education resource for classical Jewish learning and modern scholarship.  Siegal College prepares Jewish educators and other communal professionals through degree programs, facilitates the Jewish journey of continuing education students, and provides a nondenominational environment for people of diverse backgrounds to explore Jewish life - past, present, and future.
